I Need To Lose Weight!

May 12th, 2008

I need to lose weight. Yes, me and half of America are in the same shoes. We all look in the mirror and say, “I need to lose weight.” If so many of us are in the same boat, why do we feel so bad about being overweight? I mean we are in the norm. Maybe there was only one or two overweight kids in our first grade class, but there are a lot more of us now that we are older. So why are we so freaked out? Why can’t we just chill out, accept ourselves, and be happy?

First, I blame fashion. If you ever go shopping for plus size clothes, then you know they are horrible. They are designed to make you look and feel like a big blob. I don’t want to spend my whole life looking like I am wearing maternity clothes.

Second, when you are overweight, you don’t feel real good. You can’t stand for long periods of time. Gravity really pulls hard when there is so much of you. You know you need to exercise to get rid of the weight. But you are so out of shape because of the load you are carrying. Can anyone relate?

That is two of the main reasons I end up saying, “I need to lose weight.” But even though those two facts make me feel fat, they also serve as my motivation. It is my goal to lose my extra weight so that I will feel healthier and look better in some really sassy clothes.

I know I need to lose weight. Ever since I gave birth to my two children, I have never been able to lose all the weight I gained at that time. But I’m always working toward my goal. And I have made significant progress. I may never regain the figure of my youth. But if I keep working at it, I will reach an acceptable weight where I can look and feel good.

It takes some people longer than others to reach that “I need to lose weight” moment. And it’s not an easy battle to fight the fat. But if we take it slow and steady and don’t give up, one day we will not have to say “I need to lose weight” anymore.

Young Show Stoppers

May 12th, 2008

It seems like very young children are striving to achieve stardom these days. Some of these young show stoppers have come up with their own brand of talent. Others are copying well know stars but bringing their individuality to the performance. But it is their age that makes their achievements so spectacular.

P. Obeadh of India answers the well known limbo question, “How low can you go?” This five year old boy can go all the way down and skate under a slowly moving car. In fact, he does it 100 times and is out to set his own Guiness World Record. Check out the video:

An eleven year old boy joins our group of show stoppers. He plays the guitar. Perhaps, that might not be so unusual. But he is so very good. Check out the video of him playing the popular song “California Dreaming.”

Show Stoppers #2: Guitar Master

A toddler is the youngest of this group of show stoppers. He has decided that he will be the fifth Beatle. He has learned all their songs and is ready to carry on in their place. He’s been on the news and on different TV shows. But you can check out this video of his practice session at home:

Unusual Claw Machines

May 8th, 2008

Do you remember dumping quarters into the claw machines at your local WalMart or arcade? The machine was filled with a variety of stuffed animals or cheap watches and jewelry that your kids just had to have. Well, some people have gotten a little carried away and have added a new twist into the claw machine business. You Tube has some interesting videos of some very unusual claw machines. These machines have living prizes.

In the first video, people are fishing the claw machine to catch a live goldfish. Watch the video.

And people are lining up to try to catch a live Maine lobster at $2 a hit in another claw machine. Here’s the video.

The Love Maine Lobster Claw Machine

I always thought it was hard enough trying to win these claw machine games. Now the prizes are alive and moving. The challenge is making these unusual claw machines a real success.

Some people have commented on these videos at YouTube.com They have suggested that these claw machines are abusing the animals. Are they? I don’t know. But if i was a lobster and people were trying to catch me all day long, I’d be determined to get my claws on someone. What do you think about it? Leave your comments about these unusual claw machines.

Get Smart Stamping Out Starvation In Africa

May 8th, 2008

Today, I learned that you can get smart while stamping out starvation in Africa and other poor countries. My daughter introduced me to a website, www.freerice.com . This site has information about how the countries of the world are working together to solve worldwide hunger problems. A goal for financial aid has been set for each country, but only six countries have met that goal so far. I am surprised and sad to say that the United States ranked at the bottom of the list for progress towards goal achievement.

But each individual can easily help stop starvation in Africa. The freerice.com web site has a vocabulary quiz game that you can play when you visit the web site. It is basically a multiple choice vocabulary quiz. You are given a vocabulary word and four possible definitions. If you choose the correct definition, you earn 20 grains of rice. There is no penalty for wrong choices. The rice you earn will be donated to help feed the poor. The money used to pay for the rice comes from advertisers who pay to have their ads on the freerice.com web site.

The web site also has letters addressed to the leaders of each country that you can download and mail. The letters will encourage each country to step up their progress in achieving the country’s goal. So you can improve your vocabulary while making an individual rice contribution to the cause. And you can also encourage your country’s group participation. Either action will lead us toward the goal of stamping out starvation in Africa and other needy areas.
