Indy Still Has It

I went to see the new Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I liked it. I thought it was a fun movie.

That being said, I have to admit it had several flaws. After seeing the other Indiana Jones movies, too much of what was meant to be surprising was utterly predictable. This last movie in the series had the same enemy as two of the other movies. And as usual, this enemy always arrived just in time to steal the treasure from Indy after he figured out all the clues.

The romantic angle also failed to surprise me, and it was thrown in like lightning. If you have heard of flash fiction, then maybe you will understand when I say this movie had flash romance. It was instant. There was no effort spent in the pursuit of love.

Some of the adventure scenes were a little too corny and unrealistic. And the fate of the bad guy, which happened to be a girl, was also predictable. It was not too different from the fate of the bad guy in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

So how could I possibly say I liked this Indiana Jones movie? Well it had redeeming qualities. The method Indiana Jones used to find the missing box in the beginning of the movie was ingenious. The action was fast-paced and continuous, so you never felt bored with the movie. And the actors were fun. They did a good job portraying their characters. The female antagonist was an interesting character and a refreshing change from the usual German bad guy. And I never would have imagined Shia LaBeouf as the next ‘rebel without a cause” character, but he pulled it off.

But Harrison Ford was still the driving force in this movie. His Indy character was still in good shape both mentally and physically. He was fast on his feet in a crisis and always up for an adventure. This older Indy was still attractive and charismatic. I don’t feel he lost anything with age.

Overall, I found this Indiana Jones movie to be entertaining and fun. It was definitely worth the price of a ticket. And if another Indiana Jones movie comes out, I’ll be there.

Don’t forget to leave a comment and tell me what you thought about the movie.

Harrison did do well, didn’t he?

I liked the fact that he wasn’t trying to play it a day younger than he is.

After expecting too much from ‘Last Crusade’ and being disappointed (I love it since) I had resolved to go to this one not being over-hyped and to just enjoy it for what it is. That worked very well for me - while others were mumbling about their failed-expectations, I was having a blast!! :)

Thanks for dropping by, Ken. I wasn’t too impressed with the “Last Crusade” either. Maybe I went in with too high expectations, too. I may rent it and watch it again to see if my opinion changes. I love the Indiana Jones’ movies. I also love the “National Treasure” movies. But hey, I loved the “Goonies,” too.
